iMetWeb.Net is pleased to bring you our new anti-spam and virus filtering service, which replaces the Postini service previously offered. This new service, called Maia Mailguard is offered at no charge to all iMetWeb.Net customers to help keep spam, viruses, and other malicious software off your PC and out of your mailbox. Maia and its related software automatically filters the incoming email, catching and removing viruses, and marking or quarantining spam. It is a fully configurable system, that "learns" as it processes your email. Maia Mailguard is a web-based service, which you access at this address:http://maia.imetweb.net. To login to the service, simply enter your email address (for instance, myname@imetweb.net) in the first box, and your email password in the password box. Once you login, you will be taken to the Welcome screen, which will show your current filtering level (off, low, medium, high, or "custom") and the contents of the Maia "Cache" which contains a summary of the messages which Maia has classified for you. Depending on your settings, there will possibly be mail in up to five categories: Non-SPAM cache, SPAM cache, Virus cache, Banned (attachments) cache, and Bad Header cache. Each of these will be explained below, but first a word about the filtering levels. There are 5 possible states: Filtering OffIn this state, no filtering (except virus filtering, which cannot be disabled) is performed and all mail is passed through unchanged. Filtering LowIn this state, virus filtering and bad header filtering are enabled. All other functions are disabled. Messages with viruses or bad headers are quarantined in the appropriate cache. Filtering MediumIn this state, viruses and bad headers are filtered, and certain types of attachments are "quarantined" (see below). Suspected SPAM is marked if it exceeds a score of 3.0, but the messages are just marked as potential spam and delivered to your mailbox. It is up to you to perform any filtering that you desire. Filtering High (Default)This is the default and recommended state. All messages are scanned for bad mail headers, potentially dangerous attachments, viruses, and spam indicators. If there are bad headers, dangerous attachments, viruses, or if the spam score exceeds 5.0, the message is not delivered, but is kept in your quarantine cache (see below). Only messages without problems, or with spam scores below 5.0 are delivered to your mailbox. Messages with spam scores above 3.0 but below 5.0 are delivered, but marked as potential spam. CACHE ManagementMessages which contain dangerous attachments, viruses, bad headers, and/or spam are not delivered to your mailbox. Instead, they are held in the cache for up to 30 days. During that time, you can login to Maia and either tell Maia that it has made a mistake (in which case the message will be delivered) or that it is correct in its evaluation. This feedback is essential to achieving good results with Maia, as the system will "learn" as you tell it more about the mail that is going through the system. Similarly, there is a "Non-spam" cache, which contains messages delivered to your mailbox in the past 5 days. IF a spam message gets through, connect to the non-spam cache, and let Maia know that it made a mistake. The system will learn and adjust for that in the future. Training Maia in this way helps to ensure that only messages that you want are delivered to your mailbox. LEARNING MOREMaia is an extremely easy to use system. We strongly recommend that you spend a few minutes and read the excellent HELP, which is available on the menu after login. It will save you time, and make your Maia experience much simpler. |
